I am often asked how I found my way into the world of crystals. How did a science teacher, with three science degrees, suddenly decide that crystals were a valid area of interest?
Well, I will tell you that I can't remember how I decided to delve into it as a business, but I do remember my first experience where a crystal impacted my life.
After my Reiki I attunement, my Reiki teacher gave me a small labradorite stone. I was a crystal skeptic at the time and did not know what to do with it or what to even think about it. So I just threw it on my bedside table and did not think any more about it.
A few months later, I was cleaning the bedside table, and I stuck the stone in my pocket to get it out of the way. Later that day, I had the unpleasant task of accompanying my children to another child's birthday party. Now, any parents out there will understand this: Children's birthday parties are one of the most trying aspects of being a parent. It is a loud, messy, wild situation in which you must make small talk with other parents who are also very unhappy to be there. Overwhelming.
Historically, I would stumble home from these events with zero energy and in a horrific mood. That day, however, I found that I was enjoying myself. I bounced around the party, talking to everyone and feeling very playful. When I got home, I turned to my husband and said, "That was a really fun party." The expression on his face told me that he certainly did not share that opinion. He had had the typical exhausting experience. He told me that it was actually worse than normal.
Later that day, I discovered the labradorite in my pocket. Intrigued, I looked up the properties of the stone. I read that labradorite creates a shield of energy around you so that no negative energy can penetrate. It is a very protective stone as well as a strengthening stone for intuition.
Well.
I could not explain my experience at the birthday party any other way than this stone was in my pocket. From there, I continued to be skeptical but I started to run little "experiments". I would carry different stones and see if I noticed anything. When I did, I would look up the properties and notice that it always coincided with what had happened.
In this way, I came to understand that the energy of stones and crystals do in fact impact our energy and our lives.
The rest, they say, is history.
